Re Tanzanite
Our group has often used gems such as sapphire, ruby, and diamond for research purposes. So the tradition of naming all new group computers after gemstones started. Tom Scheidemantel, a group member until recently, decided to name this computer "tanzanite", which is an increasingly popular gemstone.
